Dozens of Migrants Dead in Trafficking Tragedy

Several survivors hospitalized in Texas.

At least 50 people were found dead inside a truck carrying illegal migrants in Texas. Officials confirmed Monday that the bodies were found inside a commercial truck parked nearly 3 miles southwest of downtown San Antonio. An additional 16 people, including 12 adults and four children, were transported to local hospitals suffering from heat-related injuries.

Multiple law enforcement agencies have said that dozens of migrants are believed to have been transported as part of a smuggling operation. An investigation into the deadly incident is being conducted by the Department of Homeland Security.

Since President Biden took office in January 2021, the number of noncitizens apprehended attempting to enter the country or denied admission at a port of entry has increased threefold reaching over 200,000 encounters per month on several occasions. Just within this fiscal year, more than 3,000 people have been found by Border Patrol agents inside commercial trucks, many of which do not have air conditioning.

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For Secretary Mayorkas to seek God’s direction as DHS investigates this loss of life due to trafficking.
  • For U.S. Customs and Border Protection agents as they seek to prevent and protect people from human smuggling.
  • For Texas officials and the leaders of San Antonio as they deal with the tragedy.
